Identification and Treatment of Pediatric Anxiety

Pediatric anxiety is a serious medical condition that affects up to 20% of youth. Anxiety disorders typically begin in childhood, and pediatricians are usually the first professionals to have an opportunity to intervene. Fortunately, early intervention can effectively treat anxiety disorders and may prevent other illness in adolescence.

In VHAN’s upcoming behavioral health webinar, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist Meg Benningfield, M.D., will focus on how to distinguish anxiety disorders from typical developmental fears in young children. Participants will learn effective strategies for treating anxiety disorders with medications, critical components of psychosocial interventions, and measures to evaluate treatment success.

Meg Benningfield, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Pediatrics as well as the Division Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
