Preventing Firearm Injury and Death in Children and Adolescents

VHAN’s Q1 2023 pediatric webinar will discuss the devastating effects of gun violence on children and adolescents, how people of color are disproportionately affected, and how guns in the home increase the risk of injury and death. Though the crisis may feel hopeless, there are ways pediatricians can prevent injury and death from firearms, including more effective screening and counseling.

Join Emmy Patterson, MD, second-year fellow in child and adolescent psychiatry at Vanderbilt Psychiatry, on Wednesday, March 1 at 12 p.m. CST as she helps listeners:

  • Understand firearm-associated morbidity and mortality in pediatric populations
  • Identify factors that contribute to this crisis
  • Recognize and implement data-supported interventions, such as patient and family education on safer storage of firearms
  • Counsel more effectively and overcome barriers to counseling
